Objective reality is the raw data of the universe independent of what is, or is not, going on in any person’s mind. Each person’s subjective reality depends on the meaning they give to their perception of objective reality. It is filtered by sensory response, biased by self interest, and limited by the ability to understand what is perceived.
The Earth was here before you were, and will be here afterward. It is approximately a sphere and revolves around the sun, which warms its surface. It exists independent of any one person’s reality, and is part of the raw data of objective reality. The warmth you feel on a sunny day is subjective. Sen. James Inhofe of Oklahoma receives our most Out of Touch with Reality post for believing he disproved that climate change is manmade by bringing a snow ball to congress. He states in his book The Greatest Hoax: How the Global Warming Conspiracy Threatens Your Future, where he makes his claim that human influenced climate change is impossible because “God’s still up there.” Inhofe cited Genesis 8:22 to claim that it is “outrageous” and arrogant for people to believe human beings are “able to change what He is doing in the climate.” (more…)
Dr. Christopher Shaw is Out of Touch with Science for continuing to support his discredited research showing a causal relationship between life saving vaccines and autism, even though his research puts children at risk.
He is a Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of British Columbia and holds cross appointments with the Department of Experimental Medicine and the Graduate Program in Neuroscience. He is the author of more than 100 peer-reviewed articles as well as numerous book chapters and special reviews. He is Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board of CMSRI. (more…)
