California Senate Passes Vaccine Bill

The controversial Senate Bill 277, in the California Senate that is about vaccines, was passed this week. The passage of the measure came amidst great resentment from many parents who had testified against the legislation during crowded and often tense committee hearings. SB277 was introduced by Democratic Senator Richard Pan of Sacramento. It was passed by members of the Senate following over an hour of intense discussion amongst the senators.

Vaccinations causing Holocaust According to Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

robert kennedy jrChildhood vaccinations are apparently causing a holocaust and killing the brains of our children, claims Robert F. Kennedy Jr. according to a report in the Sacramento Bee.  The environmental lawyer and activist addressed the audience at a Sacramento, California, screening of the documentary Trace Amounts, which links autism to thimerosal, a vaccine preservative.

“They get the shot, that night they have a fever of a hundred and three, they go to sleep, and three months later their brain is gone, This is a holocaust, what this is doing to our country.”- Kennedy Jr.

The goal of the film screening is to stop California SB-277,  a bill that would require schoolchildren in the state to be vaccinated, and parents would no longer be able to send unvaccinated children to school with waivers for religious or personal beliefs. Exemptions would be available only for children with health problems. (more…)

Vaccines & Autism

In recent years the antivaccine movement has focused on the claim that vaccines are linked to neurological injury, and specifically to the neurological disorder autism, now referred to as autism spectrum disorder (ASD). However all scientific evidence overwhelmingly shows no correlation between vaccines in general, the MMR vaccine specifically, or thimerosal (a mercury-based preservative) in vaccines with ASD or other neurodevelopmental disorders.  See the following science facts about autism and vaccines – (more…)

Rep. Senator Rand Paul is Out of Touch with Reality

Republican Sen. Rand Paul gets an Out of Touch post for his statement in an interview he gave last month to CNBC:

“I’ve heard many tragic cases of walking, talking normal children who wound up with profound mental disorders after vaccines.”

Really, he’s heard of many tragic cases? We cannot excuse this big of a distortion of the facts. He is also standing by his statement that most vaccinations should be “voluntary,” telling CNBC that it is a parent’s choice. Being a doctor he knows better about vaccines.

Andrew Wakefield’s bogus science has led to deaths in children

news-graphics-2008-_660290aAndrew Jeremy Wakefield  is a British former surgeon and medical researcher, receives our Out of Touch post for his fraudulent 1998 research paper in support of the now-discredited claim that there was a link between the administration of the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine, and the appearance of autism and bowel disease. This is currently significant because of the recent measles breakout due to a lower than hoped for rate of inoculation in children because many parents think the vaccine is unsafe based on Wakefield’s original claims.
